Alexander Valley Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2020

97
Alexander Valley Vineyards
Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon
Vintage: 2020
Country of Origin: United States
Appellation: Alexander Valley
Retail Price: $27.99

Tasting Notes: I decided to repeat my experiment from before with another 1994 from my cellar to taste and compare side by side with the current release. Building on the house style, winemaker Kevin Hall has done it again.95% Cab is layered with touches of Merlot, while hints of Cab Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot add fruit notes and seamless complexity. The 94 still had remnants of fruit and showed great structure…patience was rewarded here. The 2020 has beautiful dark fruit notes, firm tannins, and a rich elegant finish. These two were the highlight of this year.

Tasting Notes: Canvasback reflects the Washington State portion of the Duckhorn portfolio. Sourcing from the famed Red Mountain appellation virtually guarantees exceptional fruit. Bordeaux-style blending (primarily cabernet, with merlot, petit verdot, syrah and malbec), mountain-fruit sourcing and a 20-month French-oak aging program yield spectacular results. Beautiful color and soft berry aromas yield to a smooth lingering finish, with plum and dark chocolate notes. An excellent example of Washington State cabernet, perfect for that rib-eye coming off the grill.
